Air Marshal Praveen Keshav Vohra assumed the role of the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force on December 1, 2023.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he began his tenure as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on December 19, 1987. With an extensive flying experience of over 3500 hours, primarily on Mig-21 variants and the Mig-29 aircraft, he has served across multiple regions of the country.
Having obtained a Category ‘Aye’ Qualified Flying Instructor designation, he commanded No. 47 Squadron, known as ‘The Black Archers’, when he served as a Wing Commander. He currently holds the title of Commodore Commandant for the same squadron. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as one of the founding members of the Indian Air Force’s Formation Aerobatic Team on the indigenous Kiran MK-II aircraft, known as the ‘Suryakirans’. Over the course of his career, he has taken on critical staff roles including Director Operations, Air Assistant to the Chief of the Air Staff, and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations) at Air Headquarters.
He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the Centre of Defence and Strategic Studies in Canberra, Australia. Before assuming the position of Senior Air Staff Officer at the Western Air Command, he served as the Air Officer Commanding Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Recognized for his commendable service to the nation, the Air Officer has been honored with the ‘Ati Vishist Seva Medal’ and ‘Vayu Sena Medal’. Married to Mrs. Navita Arjun Vohra, the couple is blessed with a son.
