President Murmu Advocates Sanskrit’s Significance at University Convocation

Smt Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, honored and delivered a speech at the inaugural convocation of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University in New Delhi on December 5, 2023.

Emphasizing Sanskrit’s role as the custodian of our culture and the cornerstone of our nation’s advancement, the President highlighted its grammatical intricacies, attributing a scientific foundation to this language. She commended Sanskrit as an exceptional testament to human aptitude, urging pride in this heritage.

Acknowledging the paramount significance of Gurus (teachers) in the Sanskrit-based education system, the President encouraged students to uphold this tradition, expressing certainty in their progression guided by gratitude towards their mentors. She emphasized that wise individuals discern excellence independently, while the unwise rely on external influence, advocating the acceptance of scientific and beneficial traditions while rejecting outdated, unjust norms, emphasizing the need for a vigilant conscience.

Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, she urged the youth to integrate Indian traditions into their journey toward a prosperous 21st century, underscoring the importance of education grounded in moral values like integrity, philanthropy, and righteousness.

Highlighting inclusivity as a societal cornerstone, she urged the university to empower female students, granting them more avenues to exhibit their capabilities, fostering a more comprehensive and progressive environment.
