Indian Coast Guard Ship Sajag, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, made a three-day port call at King Abdul Aziz Port, AD Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on December 5, 2023. This visit focuses on bolstering diplomatic relations and fostering cooperation with the Saudi Border Guards and Saudi Naval Forces. The agenda includes professional exchanges such as training sessions on Vessel Board Search & Seizure (VBSS), Maritime Search & Rescue (M-SAR), cross-deck visits, and Marine Pollution Response (MPR) exercises.
The visit involves Courtesy Calls by the Ship’s Commanding Officer to Saudi dignitaries, showcasing India’s shipbuilding capabilities, indigenous technological advancements, and the versatile capabilities of the ICG Surface Platform.
ICGS Sajag’s deployment aligns with the government’s objective to strengthen international relations, as part of its West Asia deployment. The ship previously visited Port Sultan Qaboos, Oman, and will also dock at Mina Rashid, UAE.
This visit underlines India’s friendly relations with Gulf countries, emphasizing maritime cooperation in line with India’s maritime vision “SAGAR – Security and Growth for All in the Region.” ICG Ship Sajag, stationed on the West Coast in Porbandar, Gujarat, operates under the Commander Coast Guard Region (North West), equipped with modern systems for various Coast Guard operations.
