The Ministry of Coal has demonstrated a notable surge in coal production, with cumulative production marking a substantial growth rate of 12.73%, touching 524.53 million tonnes up to November 2023. The ministry’s primary objective is to ensure the nation’s coal production.
During November 2023 alone, the recorded coal production soared to 84.53 million tonnes (Provisional), exhibiting a remarkable increase of 11.03% compared to the 76.14 million tonnes achieved in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The cumulative coal production for the fiscal year 2023-24 has witnessed a significant rise, reaching a provisional figure of 591.28 million tonnes up to November 2023, surpassing the 524.53 million tonnes produced during the same timeframe in the fiscal year 2022-23.
Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, shared this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The ministry’s remarkable achievements underscore its commitment to boosting coal production, contributing significantly to the country’s energy needs and overall economic development. The existing import policy maintains coal under the Open General License (OGL), enabling consumers to import coal from their chosen sources as per contractual agreements and payment of applicable duty.
