Today marked a momentous occasion as the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated a national conference titled ‘Integration of Yoga in School Education System-Manifesting the Thought,’ organized by Kaivalyadhama as part of its centenary year celebrations in Lonavala, Maharashtra on November 29, 2023.
In her address, the President underscored the immense value of yoga as India’s treasured gift to the global community. Noting the global celebration of Yoga Day since 2015 in numerous countries, she highlighted the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution recognizing yoga’s holistic contributions to health and well-being for communities worldwide. Emphasizing the significance of Indian knowledge traditions in the National Education Policy 2020, she articulated its aim to bring the benefits of yoga to children and the youth.
The President illuminated yoga as a transformative path toward comprehensive individual development, fostering physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual progress. Drawing from ancient sages’ wisdom and empirical insights, she underscored yoga’s role in achieving liberation. She lauded the efforts of Swami Kuvalayananda ji in the 20th century for advocating the scientific aspects and practical utility of the yoga system.
Citing Swami Kuvalayananda ji’s emphasis on integrating yoga education into schools, the President expressed confidence that Kaivalya Vidya Niketan, an educational institution under Kaivalyadhama Sansthan, would serve as a beacon, inspiring other schools. She expressed optimism that Kaivalyadhama would continue to blend the essence of yoga tradition and science, guiding the global youth toward holistic development.
The conference served as a platform to elucidate the pivotal role of yoga in educational systems, reflecting India’s commitment to imparting the wisdom and practice of yoga to the younger generation, fostering their well-rounded growth and holistic development.
