Comprehensive Animal Husbandry Statistics Reflecting 2022-23 Productions

The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala, presented the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2023 today at the National Milk Day event in Guwahati. This release encapsulates the comprehensive overview of milk, egg, meat, and wool production for the period 2022-23 based on the Animal Integrated Sample Survey conducted from March 2022 to February 2023.

The latest statistics divulge crucial insights into the production levels across various segments of the animal husbandry sector in the country. Minister Rupala highlighted the key findings from the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics report, emphasizing the significant growth and notable contributors in each category.

Milk Production:

Minister Rupala unveiled that the nation’s total milk production for 2022-23 reached an estimated 230.58 million tonnes, marking a substantial 22.81% increase over the past five years, compared to 187.75 million tonnes in 2018-19. Furthermore, there was a 3.83% rise in production in 2022-23 compared to the previous year. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh emerged as leading contributors to the overall milk production. Karnataka, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh showcased the highest annual growth rates.

Egg Production:

The report revealed that the total egg production for 2022-23 stood at an estimated 138.38 billion, reflecting an impressive 33.31% growth over the last five years from 103.80 billion in 2018-19. There was a 6.77% increase in egg production during 2022-23 compared to the preceding year. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal, and Karnataka played a significant role in contributing to the country’s egg production. West Bengal, Sikkim, and Uttar Pradesh exhibited the highest growth rates in this sector.

Meat Production:

In terms of meat production, the statistics indicated an estimated total of 9.77 million tonnes during 2022-23, marking a commendable 20.39% growth over the past five years, compared to 8.11 million tonnes in 2018-19. The year 2022-23 observed a 5.13% increase in meat production compared to the previous year. Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana emerged as major contributors to meat production, while Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Goa showcased the highest annual growth rates.

Wool Production:

Contrastingly, the wool production figures for 2022-23 totaled 33.61 million kg, reflecting a negative growth of 16.84% over the past five years from 40.42 million kg in 2018-19. However, there was a 2.12% increase in wool production in 2022-23 compared to the previous year. Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh were notable contributors to wool production. Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand displayed the highest annual growth rates in this segment.

The Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2023 serves as a comprehensive reflection of the dynamic growth and contributions in milk, egg, meat, and wool production across various states in the country, outlining both significant advancements and areas for further development in the animal husbandry sector.
