India-US Collaboration: Paving the Way for Sustainable Mineral Solutions

In a groundbreaking development, Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, recently addressed the 7th India-US Forum. During his speech, he emphasized the joint initiatives both countries are set to undertake in the field of geoscientific data processing, research and development in processing critical minerals, opportunities for junior mining companies, and the recycling of critical minerals.

The collaborative efforts were unveiled as Shri V.L. Kantha Rao engaged in extensive discussions with a high-level US delegation led by Mr. Geoffery Pyatt, Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources, USA. The talks centered around exploring avenues for cooperation in clean energy and critical minerals. The focus was on harnessing the potential of platforms such as iCET, MSP (Mineral Security Partnership), and IPEF (India-U.S. Public-Private Environment Forum) to foster stronger ties in these vital sectors.

Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, in his role as Secretary Mines Ministry of India, took the opportunity to shed light on pivotal measures taken by the Indian government. These measures are geared towards fortifying India’s position in securing critical raw materials essential for a sustainable energy transition. The discussions also delved into the strategies employed to meet India’s ambitious NetZero targets.

The workshop organized by prominent organizations such as CEEW (Council on Energy, Environment and Water), CSEP (Centre for Social and Economic Progress), ICRIER (Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations), IISD (International Institute for Sustainable Development), and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation served as a platform for Shri V.L. Kantha Rao to articulate India’s commitment to responsible resource management and collaborative efforts in building a resilient and sustainable future.
