INS Sumedha’s Visit Strengthens India-Mozambique Maritime Cooperation

The recent arrival of INS Sumedha at Maputo, Mozambique, as part of the Extended Operational Deployment to Africa, underscores India’s commitment to fortifying diplomatic ties and maritime collaboration. This port call serves as a pivotal moment to enhance the enduring relations between India and Mozambique while fostering cooperation and interoperability between their naval forces.

Scheduled from November 23rd to 25th, the visit focuses on professional engagements like joint EEZ surveillance, cross deck visits, and planning conferences. These interactions aim to bolster mutual understanding and strengthen maritime security initiatives in the region.

The activities during the port call encompass Courtesy Calls by the Commanding Officer on various dignitaries and government officials of Mozambique, including the Navy Commandant and the Mayor of Maputo City. India and Mozambique, sharing common values of democracy and development, have a history of warm bilateral relations, evident in regular high-level exchanges across diverse fields.

The visit further accentuates bilateral defense cooperation, emphasized through consistent Joint Defence Working Group meetings. India’s overseas deployment of naval ships mirrors its commitment to fostering global friendships and bolstering international cooperation, aligning with the Indian Navy’s mission.
