The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) achieved a significant milestone this year by selling medicines worth Rs. 1000 Crore. This accomplishment is attributed to the people of the country, who saved approximately 5000 crores by purchasing medicines from Jan Aushadhi Kendras spread across more than 785 districts nationwide. PMBJP’s substantial growth demonstrates its dedication to serving diverse communities and extending its reach.
In the past nine years, the number of Kendras has seen remarkable growth, escalating from a mere 80 in 2014 to nearly 10000 Kendras now, covering almost all districts in the country. In his 2023 Independence Day speech, the Hon’ble Prime Minister announced plans to open 25,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) across the nation.
Marking this expansion, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated the 10,000th Janaushadhi Kendra at AIIMS, Deoghar, Jharkhand, on November 30, 2023. This paved the way for further proliferation, aiming to reach 25,000 Kendras by March 2026, ensuring convenient access to medicines for all. To fulfill this commitment, the Government has initiated the process of accepting online applications for new Janaushadhi Kendras across all districts via PMBI’s official website – www.janaushadhi.gov.in. For inquiries or assistance, individuals can also contact the national toll-free number: 1800 180 8080.
Presently, there are over 10,000 operational Janaushadhi Kendras across India. The PMBJP offers a diverse product range, including 1963 medicines and 293 surgical devices, encompassing various therapeutic categories like Cardiovascular, Anti-cancer, Anti-diabetic, Anti-infective, Anti-allergic, Gastrointestinal medicines, Nutraceuticals, and more.
To support the supply chain, five warehouses located at Gurugram, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, and Surat, backed by an SAP-based inventory management system, are in operation. Additionally, 36 distributors function across the country, facilitating medicine distribution to remote and rural areas. PMBJP has expanded its product basket to include Ayurvedic products for immunity boosting, ensuring their affordability and accessibility to the public.
