The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has introduced a transformative initiative called ‘Prerana: An Experiential Learning Program.’ This innovative program is designed to provide a unique, meaningful, and inspiring educational experience aimed at nurturing leadership qualities among its participants.
Prerana stands firmly committed to integrating the foundational principles of the Indian education system with the ethos of value-based education, which forms a fundamental aspect of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
This week-long residential program, Prerana, caters to selected students from classes IX to XII. It is a pioneering initiative in experiential and inspirational learning, combining the best-in-class technology with a strong focus on heritage and innovation. Each week, a group of 20 students (10 boys and 10 girls) from diverse parts of the country will have the opportunity to attend this program.
Located in Vadnagar, district Mehsana, Gujarat, Prerana unfolds its chapters within a Vernacular School established in 1888. The school symbolizes the indomitable spirit of Vadnagar, a city rich in ancient heritage and resilience, having endured earthquakes and natural calamities while preserving its historical monuments. This school exemplifies the profound truth that exceptional lives often have humble beginnings. Rooted in India’s timeless wisdom, this initiative resonates with the vision aligned with our Hon’ble Prime Minister, who himself is an alumnus of a similar ethos.
The curriculum for Prerana School, crafted by IIT Gandhi Nagar, revolves around nine value-based themes such as self-respect, courage, dedication, compassion, unity, truthfulness, curiosity, faith, freedom, and duty. These themes are designed to inspire and instill values of diversity, unity, and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ among the youth, shaping them into torchbearers of a progressive Bharat.
The day-wise schedule of the program encompasses yoga, mindfulness, and meditation sessions, followed by experiential learning, thematic sessions, and engaging hands-on activities. Evening activities include visits to ancient heritage sites, film screenings, creative tasks, talent shows, and more, emphasizing a holistic learning approach. Additionally, students will explore indigenous knowledge systems, cutting-edge technologies, and learn from inspirational personalities.
Prospective participants can register through the prerana.education.gov.in portal. The selection process includes various activities conducted at the School/block level, evaluating well-rounded personalities eager to contribute positively to the nation’s future.
The chosen 20 participants (10 boys and 10 girls) will embark on a journey of inspiration, innovation, and self-discovery during the Prerana program. Post-program, these participants will carry forth the values imbibed and act as catalysts for positive change within their communities, serving as inspirations for others.
