In a momentous event at Baljek Airport, Tura, Meghalaya, President Droupadi Murmu engaged with members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) on January 16, 2024. The President, while virtually laying the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex in Tura, emphasized the pivotal role women play in India’s development.
President Murmu asserted that for India to achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, empowering women across social, economic, political, and spiritual domains is imperative. Highlighting women’s achievements in diverse fields, she underscored the need for encouragement through words and small gestures.
The President stressed that genuine women-led development is possible when women have the freedom to make choices. Economic independence, she noted, significantly boosts women’s self-confidence. While acknowledging the government’s efforts to enhance women’s participation, she urged society to recognize and support the value and qualities of women.
Encouraging SHG members to lead and uplift others, President Murmu envisioned a collective journey towards empowering women nationwide, inspiring them to explore opportunities beyond their homes. She concluded by urging everyone to contribute to the ongoing endeavor of women’s empowerment in India.
