Tata Motors Unveils Advanced Mobility Solutions at Prawaas 4.0

Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, showcased an impressive array of advanced and sustainable mobility solutions at the Prawaas 4.0 event. This three-day biennial event, focused on promoting safe, smart, and sustainable integrated mass mobility solutions, provided Tata Motors with the perfect platform to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the transportation sector. Among the highlights was the launch of the all-new Tata Ultra EV 7M, a zero-emission intra-city electric bus designed to meet the growing demand for clean and efficient urban mobility.

Highlights from Prawaas 4.0: A Focus on Sustainable Transport

At Prawaas 4.0, Tata Motors introduced a range of vehicles tailored to diverse passenger and commercial transportation needs. The Tata Ultra EV 7M, specifically designed for city commutes, offers comfortable seating for 21 passengers and is equipped with a 213 kW electric motor and a 200 kWh IP67-rated Li-ion battery. Capable of delivering a range of up to 160 km on a single charge, this electric bus also features fast charging capabilities, allowing it to be fully charged in just 2.5 hours. The bus’s advanced safety features, including an electronic braking system, electronic stability control, and an automatic passenger counter, make it a practical and safe solution for urban environments.

In addition to the Ultra EV 7M, Tata Motors showcased other innovative products, such as the Tata Magna EV, an intercity coach designed for long-distance travel; the Tata Magic Bi-fuel, which combines the benefits of CNG and petrol for last-mile connectivity; and the Tata Ultra Prime CNG, ideal for school and staff transportation. The Tata Winger 9S, Tata CityRide Prime, and Tata LPO 1822 were also featured, demonstrating Tata Motors’ capability to offer customized solutions across various transportation segments.

Commenting on the company’s participation at Prawaas 4.0, Mr. Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business, stated, “Our participation aligns with the event’s theme of safe, smart, and sustainable mobility. We are committed to providing innovative and efficient solutions that meet the unique needs of our customers, from metropolitan cities to smaller towns.”

Shift in EV Battery Sourcing: A Strategic Move for Future Growth

In line with its commitment to sustainability and innovation, Tata Motors has also made a significant change in its electric vehicle (EV) battery sourcing strategy. Until recently, all battery packs for Tata’s passenger vehicles were developed in-house by Tata AutoComp Systems. However, the launch of the Tata Curvv EV has seen a shift, with the smaller 45 kWh battery pack being sourced from Octillion Power Systems, a Chinese company known for its advanced battery technology.

This decision marks the first time Tata Motors has partnered with Octillion Power Systems for its passenger vehicles, although the two companies have a history of collaboration in the commercial vehicle sector, particularly for the Starbus EV. The Curvv EV’s smaller battery variant utilizes cylindrical cells sourced from EVE, another Chinese firm, while the larger 55 kWh variant continues to rely on Tata AutoComp Systems and Gotion for its battery packs.

Tata Motors’ adoption of a multi-sourcing strategy for its EV battery packs aims to diversify its supply chain, reduce reliance on a single supplier, and enhance production flexibility. By partnering with multiple battery suppliers, Tata Motors seeks to ensure a steady supply of high-quality battery packs, address performance issues, and meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.

Looking Ahead: Tata Motors’ Vision for a Sustainable Future

Tata Motors’ participation in Prawaas 4.0 and its shift in EV battery sourcing underscore the company’s dedication to leading the future of sustainable mobility. With over 2,900 electric buses already deployed across India, covering more than 16 crore kilometers cumulatively, Tata Motors continues to push the boundaries of clean and efficient transportation. As the company prepares to introduce more electric vehicle models in the coming years, its multi-sourcing strategy and commitment to innovation will be crucial in driving growth and maintaining its leadership position in the EV market.

Tata Motors’ forward-looking approach, highlighted by its diverse range of eco-friendly vehicles and strategic partnerships, positions it well to meet the evolving needs of customers and contribute significantly to the global shift towards sustainable and green transportation solutions.
