The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, through its CPSE, North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), is set to host the inaugural edition of “Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024.” This vibrant cultural extravaganza, scheduled from January 13th to 17th at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, aims to offer a comprehensive experience of North East India’s rich cultural tapestry.
Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North East Region, highlighted the essence of the Uttar Purvi Mahotsav as a meticulously curated platform. It’s designed to exhibit the diverse arts, crafts, and cultural heritage, presenting a cultural mosaic of North East India.
The Mahotsav is not just a celebration but an economic platform as well. With a participation of 250 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs, it seeks to foster economic exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agricultural products, and tourism offerings. Panel discussions, buyer-seller meets, cultural showcases, and performances form the essence of this event.
The event’s key highlights include the showcasing of indigenous crafts, textiles, and organic products. Panel discussions will focus on catalyzing the Northeast’s progress and spotlight the contributions of women leaders. The economic potential and workforce dynamics of the region will also be explored.
Buyer-seller meets are set to facilitate meaningful interactions and business opportunities. An initiative to onboard artisans and entrepreneurs, aiming at 5,000 – 10,000 annually, along with a partnership with ONDC for digital commerce, emphasizes the economic collaboration and growth potential.
The cultural showcase promises a mesmerizing journey through traditional dances, performances, and music. It will feature renowned art forms like Satriya Dance, Hojagiri Dance, Tangtha Fight, Lion Dance, and more, exhibiting the vibrant cultural heritage of North East India.
Additionally, during the Mahotsav, the inauguration of Barak Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the foundation laying of a North East Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, will take place. The Barak Hostel aims to accommodate 400 students from the North Eastern region studying at JNU, while the Convention Centre will serve as a cultural and information hub.
The inaugural edition of the Uttar Purvi Mahotsav is more than an event; it’s a celebration and exploration of North East India’s cultural richness and immense economic potential. It represents a convergence of tradition, innovation, and diversity, fostering an environment for growth and flourishing possibilities.
