Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty Assumes Command at Indian Naval Academy

Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty has taken the helm as the Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy (INA) on January 15, 2024. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1989. A seasoned professional, Vice Admiral McCarty specializes in ‘Gunnery and Missiles.’

Having graduated from the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington in 2005 and the National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi in 2017, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role. Throughout his career, he has held key positions, including commanding various vessels such as the Guided Missile Corvette INS Khanjar and the Landing Platform Dock INS Jalashwa.

Vice Admiral McCarty’s leadership extends beyond the seas, having served as India’s Defence Adviser to Singapore with concurrent accreditation to the Philippines. Notably, he held the position of Commodore (Naval Plans) from 2018 to 2020, playing a pivotal role in shaping the Indian Navy’s Perspective, Financial, and Acquisition Plans.

Before assuming the role of Commandant at INA, Vice Admiral McCarty served as the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet (FOCWF) from November 15, 2022, to November 9, 2023. His wealth of experience and strategic acumen position him well to guide and shape the future leaders of the Indian Navy at the esteemed Naval Academy.
