Vice-President Champions Ayurveda for Global Health

The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, delivered a compelling address at the 5th Global Ayurveda Festival in Thiruvananthapuram, emphasizing Ayurveda’s pivotal role in combating modern non-communicable diseases. He lauded Ayurveda as an affordable, non-invasive, and efficacious solution, aligning seamlessly with the global pursuit of sustainable and equitable healthcare.

Highlighting Ayurveda’s holistic approach, Dhankhar underscored its emphasis on prevention, balance, and personalized care, surpassing mere treatment to encompass comprehensive wellness ideologies. He commended the establishment of AYUSH Health & Wellness Centers across India under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, recognizing this as pivotal for expanding healthcare accessibility, especially in remote regions.

The Vice-President delved into Ayurveda’s ancient legacy, referencing texts like the Atharva Veda, Charaka Samhita, and Sushruta Samhita, illustrating the profound insights they offer into the human body and therapeutic principles embedded in Ayurveda.

Dhankhar also highlighted Yoga as a gift from India to the world, promoting inclusivity and serving as a soft power, illuminating the depth of Indian culture globally. Moreover, he acknowledged the role of Ayurveda during the COVID-19 pandemic, citing its efficacy in battling the disease, supported by digital platforms for extending AYUSH services.

Appreciating governmental efforts, including the establishment of the AYUSH Ministry, National Ayurveda Day, and integration of Ayurveda into the National Education Policy, the Vice-President emphasized Ayurveda’s comprehensive approach beyond treating ailments.

He stressed Ayurveda’s connection with nature, emphasizing its ability to remind humanity of nature’s importance, especially in an era where environmental degradation is a concern.

Referring to Kerala as the cradle of Ayurvedic excellence, Dhankhar praised the state’s potential in catalyzing wellness tourism, combining traditional practices like Ayurveda with its natural beauty.

In conclusion, Vice-President Dhankhar expressed hope that Ayurveda’s timeless wisdom would pave the way for health and well-being to be recognized as fundamental rights globally.
